an electronic Christmas card

Merry Christmas! December 2007

I pray that this letter finds you well, and enjoying the Christmas season. Spencer and I are happy to update you on a few things that happened this past year.

Last December, we purchased our first home. It needed some work, so we took the opportunity to do some major work on the house before we moved in. We painted every room, and even the ceilings. We put some new flooring in, replaced light fixtures, and replaced every outlet and light switch in the house. We had help from our families which was a huge blessing as most of the things would not have been possible without their help.

We moved in at the end of January, and spent the next month or so getting settled. We have really enjoyed having our own house. We’ve had a year of learning of the time-consuming task of yard work, keeping up the house, and expanding our list of home-improvement projects. We even put up our Christmas lights for the first time this year. It’s fun having our own place!

We did quite a bit of traveling this past spring and summer. In March, we traveled to Mexico with Spencer’s parents and a team of medical students and construction help. Brian, Spencer’s Dad, has lead many groups to this small town to provide a medical clinic. Since we are neither medical nor construction experts, we helped out where we could. I helped organize the medicine we took. Spencer helped out with some construction projects for a pastor and his family. This trip consisted of building 2 sets of cement stairs. Spencer and I were happy to travel along with family to serve Christ in this way.

In May, we traveled to Hawaii with the Tracy’s (Thea’s family). It was a long-time dream come true for my parents to have all of us travel together for a week-long vacation. All 10 of us stayed in a condo on the beach. It was a precious time with family, and a wonderful opportunity to see the beauty of Hawaii.

June and July are Spencer’s busy months with summer camp in full swing. This was his first year not living out at camp. He did a wonderful job managing the camp from Omaha and visiting camp a couple times a week.

In July, we went to Arizona with the Finley’s. It was a trip to the Grand Canyon to lay Spencer’s Grandma’s ashes to rest. It was amazing to be in the beauty of the Grand Canyon and another special time with family.

In August, I began a full-time teaching position with Millard Public Schools. I am teaching 7th grade Science and Math at Russell Middle School. It has kept me very busy, but I enjoy having my own classroom for the first time.

Also in August we adopted a cat from the Nebraska Humane Society. Ragoo, is a Siamese mix and she’s been fun to have in our home. We’re doing the best we can to train her to be a nice kitten, but she’s quite ornery!

Last, but not least, at the beginning of November we discovered that, Lord-willing, we are expecting our first baby in July! We’re looking forward to the journey that lies in front of us! With our growing families, I’m confident that we’ll have lots of help.

We are grateful to the Lord for everything this year. Spencer and I are blessed with your friendship and support. Thank you for sharing your life and love with us. We look forward to hearing from you and pray that this season and year you may praise Jesus for who he is and what he has done for us.

Hi from mom and dad, aunt vicki and tony, grandma and grandpa, aunt nancy and bob AND all your cousins. Everyone thinks baby Finley is very very cute. They all think that I will be an awesome grandma if I don't get too obnoxious. Carol
